Luxury textiles are an investment in comfort and elegance for your home. To ensure their durability and preserve their beauty, it is essential to apply specific care techniques that respect the delicacy of the materials. Below, we share a guide with the best tips to keep your sheets, towels, curtains, and other high-end textiles in perfect condition, allowing them to be passed down from generation to generation.
- Read the Care Labels
Our first recommendation is always to check the composition and care labels, as each fabric has its own specific washing and maintenance requirements. It is important to know the recommended temperature, whether dry cleaning or hand washing is necessary, etc. Following these instructions is key to preventing damage.
- Use Gentle Detergents
Harsh soaps can deteriorate the texture and color of luxury textiles. Opt for mild detergents and avoid excessive use of fabric softeners, as they can leave residues, affect breathability, and alter the fabric’s natural color. At Los Encajeros, we have developed a line of natural soaps that ensure the proper care of fabrics. You can find them HERE.
- Wash at the Right Temperature
High temperatures can weaken natural fibers and cause shrinkage. In general, cotton and linen should be washed in cold or lukewarm water, while silk and cashmere require cold water and preferably hand washing. We do not recommend washing our sheets at a temperature higher than 30ºC.
- Careful Drying
Avoid using a dryer for delicate textiles. While it is possible to use a dryer for our sheets, whenever possible, air dry them in a shaded area to prevent fading from direct sunlight. If you must use a dryer, select a low-temperature setting and place the items inside a protective mesh bag. Keep in mind that fabrics, particularly bedding, that are dried in a dryer will age more quickly and have a shorter lifespan compared to air-dried household textiles.
- Ironing with Caution
Some textiles, such as linen and cotton, may require ironing to maintain a flawless appearance. Use an iron on a medium heat setting, and if the fabric is particularly delicate, place a cloth between the iron and the garment to avoid scorching or unwanted shine. When sheets have embroidered details such as initials, we always recommend ironing them inside out to preserve their shape and keep them as beautiful as the first day.
- Proper Storage
To prevent moisture damage, store all household linens, such as sheets and tablecloths, in a dry and well-ventilated place. Avoid plastic bags and opt for cotton covers that allow air circulation. For blankets and duvets, regular airing is recommended.
- Regular Maintenance
Shaking out and airing textiles regularly helps preserve their freshness and remove dust particles. Additionally, professional cleaning can be an excellent option for down-filled duvets.
Proper care of luxury home textiles not only extends their lifespan but also maintains their appearance and softness over time. By following these tips, you can enjoy the elegance and comfort of our exclusive fabrics for many years.
