As we have already mentioned, merino wool blankets are known for their softness, warmth, and ability to regulate temperature. However, washing these blankets correctly is crucial to maintaining their quality and extending their lifespan.

  1. Read the care instructions: Before starting the washing process, it’s important to read the care labels or instructions provided by the manufacturer. These guidelines will give you specific information on how to wash and dry your merino wool blanket, taking into account any special considerations.
  2. Hand wash or machine wash with care: Merino wool is a delicate type of wool, so it is recommended to hand wash it whenever possible. Fill a sink or container with warm water and add a mild detergent specifically designed for wool. Soak the blanket for a few minutes and then gently rub to remove dirt. Rinse with clean water until no detergent residue remains. If you choose to use a washing machine, make sure to select the gentlest wash cycle and use cold water. Place the blanket inside a laundry bag or pillowcase to protect it and prevent tangling or damage during the wash.
  3. Avoid using fabric softeners and bleach: Fabric softeners and bleach can harm the natural fibers of merino wool. It’s best to avoid using them when washing these blankets. Instead, you can add a little white vinegar to the final rinse to soften the blanket and remove any detergent residue.
  4. Proper drying: Properly drying merino wool blankets is important to avoid misshaping or shrinking. Lay the blanket flat on a clean, dry surface, preferably in a horizontal position. Avoid hanging it, as the weight of the water could stretch the fibers and distort it. Additionally, avoid exposing it directly to intense sunlight or direct sources of heat, as this can also damage the fibers.
  5. Proper storage: When you’re not using your merino wool blanket, store it in a clean, dry place. Avoid storing it in airtight plastic bags, as wool needs to breathe. You can store it in a breathable fabric bag or in a well-ventilated closet.
