With over 100 years of history, this Bilbao-based house brings its own original, handcrafted and custom-made designs created with the finest fabrics in the world.
After 136 years of excellence and four generations as a benchmark of refined taste — not only in the Basque Country, but throughout Spain, Europe, the Americas, and Canada — Los Encajeros opens its new store at Calle Núñez de Balboa, 34, right in the heart of Madrid’s Salamanca district. This new chapter marks a milestone in the legacy of the Bilbao-based brand, which has long been a trusted supplier to major European royal households and the national and international jet set.
The secret to their success lies in four key principles: selecting the finest materials, creating bespoke designs, maintaining entirely artisanal production, and offering impeccable customer service — as explained by María and Mónica, great-granddaughters of Manuel Mendoza, the founder of Los Encajeros.
“Our goal has always been to offer our clients the very best: Swiss embroideries, Irish linens, Egyptian cottons treated in Switzerland, and the purest silks,” says María, emphasizing that quality has been their top priority since day one. Just like their ancestors, they go directly to the source: “Our suppliers are small-scale artisans, whom we visit regularly to personally understand the composition, characteristics, and uniqueness of each fabric.”
As for garment production, María explains, “To create truly unique pieces tailored to each client’s needs, our seamstresses take precise measurements, hand-sew each item, and present the finished piece directly to the client.”
