Summer is just around the corner, and with it comes the much-anticipated moment to lighten up the bedding. Yes, it’s time to temporarily say goodbye to our beloved duvets that have kept us warm throughout the winter. But, do you know the best way to store them so they don’t get damaged and continue to serve us well for many more winters?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Goodbye, duvet. Hello, freshness!<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

First, we need to prepare our duvets for their well-deserved summer rest. Before anything else, make sure to read our manufacturer’s recommendations. Each duvet has its own care instructions, and some are best washed at a laundromat. If yours can be washed at home, follow these steps.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Wash with Love (and Dryer Balls)<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

To wash your duvet at home, use a washing machine with enough capacity so it doesn’t get cramped. A mild detergent is your best friend here, and please, no fabric softeners or bleaches! These products can be very harsh and damage the delicate fibers of your duvet. We recommend using our bio soap made from olive oil<\/strong>, which you can find HERE<\/a><\/strong>. A fantastic trick we used to use is adding three tennis balls to the washing machine drum. Why? To prevent the filling from clumping. But even better than that is using dryer balls<\/strong>, which are made specifically for this purpose. You can find them HERE<\/a><\/strong>. By using our dryer balls, you will extend the lifespan of all your clothes, and they are perfect for washing duvets. They are handmade, one by one, from pure merino wool. As a result, they absorb much more moisture, last longer, and take better care of your clothes. Let’s get to work!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Extra Rinse: The Key to Avoiding Stains<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

After washing, make sure to do an extra rinse<\/strong>. This will help remove any detergent residue that could cause those dreaded yellow storage stains. If your washing machine is small, don’t hesitate to use the bathtub. Fill it with lukewarm water and a little mild detergent, and let the duvet soak for about 30 minutes. Then, rinse well and gently press out the excess water.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Gentle Drying<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Do you have a dryer? Perfect. Use a delicate drying program<\/strong> and put the dryer balls back in. This will help the filling regain its fluffy shape. If you don’t have a dryer, lay the duvet out on a flat surface and let it air dry in a place with good air circulation and indirect sunlight. Remember to turn it over occasionally to ensure it dries evenly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Safe Storage<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Now that your duvet is clean and dry, it’s time to store it. Although vacuum bags are very tempting for saving space, they are not the best option for your duvets. They can cause damage and encourage moisture, which we don’t want. The most recommended way is to use cardboard boxes<\/strong> or breathable materials <\/strong>that allow the duvet to ‘breathe’. This way, it will be in perfect condition for when winter comes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And voil\u00e0, your duvet is ready for its summer nap!<\/p>\n\n\n\n
