In 1880<\/strong>, Manuel Mendoza<\/strong> took a chance on a business model that was virtually unknown in Spain at the time: the import of high-quality fabrics<\/strong>. He opened a small shop in the Seven Streets of Bilbao<\/strong>, where the finest textiles from Ireland<\/strong>, Switzerland<\/strong>, and England<\/strong> began to arrive. Over time, the shop grew into the city\u2019s most renowned fabric house. And that\u2019s how Los Encajeros<\/strong> was born \u2014 a century-old brand now specializing in haute couture pieces for the home<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cAt first, the store operated simply as a warehouse supplying convents and private homes with fabrics for making their own table linens, trousseaux, and children\u2019s garments,\u201d explain the brand\u2019s current representatives. However, by 1950<\/strong>, a shortage of professional seamstresses led Jos\u00e9 Manuel Mendoza<\/strong>, the founder\u2019s grandson, to convert the business from a retail-only store into a full tailoring workshop<\/strong>. This shift marked the beginning of Los Encajeros\u2019 own designs in home linens and fine lingerie.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the 1980s<\/strong>, the company expanded across the Iberian Peninsula. And by the late 1990s<\/strong>, Mar\u00eda and M\u00f3nica<\/strong> \u2014 daughters of Jos\u00e9 Manuel \u2014 took the reins of the business with a clear goal: to bring Los Encajeros to the world<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Their core values \u2014 to create high-quality products<\/strong>, using the finest materials<\/strong>, crafted with a fully artisanal process<\/strong> \u2014 have remained unchanged for nearly 140 years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Just like on the finest fashion runways, their process begins with material selection<\/strong>. The Mendoza sisters travel straight to the source to find exquisite Belgian and Irish linens<\/strong>, top-grade organdies and piqu\u00e9s<\/strong>, and the finest Egyptian cottons<\/strong>, among other exceptional fabrics that form the foundation of their collections.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Then, with meticulous care, the skilled hands of expert seamstresses<\/strong> shape each piece entirely by hand<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
